DAY 29: Singing God’s Word

Text: Ephesians 5:18-20
Memorize: Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Romans 13:13

Scriptures: Ephesians 5:18-20;Psalms 95:1-2;Matthew 26:30;Acts 16:25;Revelation 15:2-4

Much of Scripture is designed to be sung. Singing Scripture helps us to memorize and meditate on it and the music helps us to connect with God emotionally. The whole book of Psalms is the hymnal of the Bible!

“Thus you see in the same Psalm [119] how David constantly boasts that he will talk, meditate, speak, sing, hear, read, by day and night and always, about nothing except God’s Word and commandments. For God will not give you his Spirit without the external Word; so take your cue from that. His command to write, preach, read, hear, sing, speak, etc., outwardly was not given in vain. It is possible to increase our responsiveness and understanding of the Word of God.

We can better understand Scripture if we stand in God’s counsel, grow in character, rid ourselves of evil and act humbly, by persevering through affliction and through the help of teachers and the Holy Spirit. Are you becoming increasingly responsive to God’s Word? What is helping (or hindering) that process?

Bible engagement is the process of taking in and living out God’s Word for the purpose of knowing him better and experiencing him more.
