1. Baptism requires REPENTANCE Acts 2:38
2. Baptism requires WATER. (Matthew 3:11)
3. Baptism required PLENTY OF WATER. (John 3:30)
4. Baptism requires GOING DOWN INTO THE WATER. (Acts 8:30)
5. Baptism requires COMING UP OUT OF THE WATER. (Matthew 3:16, Acts 8:39)
Repentance means that one has to believe to forsake his old ways and follow the
way of Christ, as he will make a decision to live for Christ. He will agree to
observe all the commands of Jesus Christ. Romans 10:17
Why
water was required is to follow the example of Christ and also to partake in the
salvation work of Christ as Christ died, buried, resurrected, and ascended into
heaven, so anyone believing in him must agree to this process which signifies
the salvation work of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:4
Plenty
of water will signify the grave which Jesus entered and came out
Going
into the water means we are buried as Christ was also buried, which shows our
obedience to the death of Christ.
Coming out of the water signifies resurrecting with Christ so that we can walk on the
newness of life
Colossians 2;12
Furthermore, the figures of speech used by the Apostle Paul accord well with
immersion. Baptism is called a “burial” in Romans 6:4 and Colossians 2:12.
Baptism is “into his death” and involves being “raised to walk in newness of
life.” It is difficult to see how sprinkling or pouring could convey these
meanings
