“Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”
It’s clear they weren’t lazy. They were discerning, persevering believers. And they were making a difference. But Jesus was saying, “That’s all great, but we have a problem here. You have left your first love.”
What does that mean? It means that in spite of all their activity, they had lost that first passion when Jesus was their highest priority. They still believed. They hadn’t abandoned their faith. But they were spiritually drying up. They were leaving their first love, and they needed to be revived. We need to revive our christian life.
Father of all mercies have mercy on us, and give us the grace to return to our original faith. We knew that the things of the world can mislead us but we asked for grace to overcome to the world
so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world
Remember the early days that you were in the light. In those days, you endured a great conflict in the face of suffering.
2 Peter 3:17
Therefore, beloved, since you already know these things, be on your guard so that you will not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure standing.
