What is the meaning of your life?

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:14

 Our life on Earth is like a vapor it does not last forever. We cannot predict tomorrow, we lived our life in an illusion full of imagination of something better than where we are. But all these are speculations which we are sure.

  • Our Car, somebody may buy a car and at the end he was killed with the car in an accident, someone will think that such person has used his money to buy his death. Who is to be blamed? This is life where we cannot predict the next moment.
  • A man married a wife and ends up putting himself in trouble and instead of having a lasting peace he ended up with problems.
  • Our Money. We give ourselves sleepless night to accumulate money and one day the person died and left the money and the struggles to someone else who does not know the amount of efforts you have made to achieve such a wealth and at the end all be wasted for nothing that does not worth it.

The world is full of fantasies; the car you bought today becomes an old model tomorrow. The handphone you bought today becomes an old model tomorrow I could remember when there was no GSM phone and at a point, the GSM phone was invented and the number of the GSM phone was limited and people treasured their GSM phone so much and such GSM phone like NOKIA 3310 and in the year 1992, it was the best selling GSM phone in the market. But today anybody who used such a phone now looks like he has committed an offense. Just reason what has made it so obsolete that people will not be able to purchase it any longer. This is obvious in the scripture that the world and its desires will be passed away.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. 1John2:17(KJV)

What are your dream and the heart desire that has made you worry all the days to achieve it?

Labor not to be rich Proverb 23: 4-5,  why? Riches certainly make wings themselves

In our humanistic culture, people pursue many things, thinking that in them they will find meaning. Some of these pursuits include business success, wealth, good relationships, sex, entertainment, and doing well to others. People have testified that while they achieved their goals of wealth, relationships, and pleasure, there was still a deep void inside, a feeling of emptiness that nothing seemed to fill.

King Solomon, the writer of Ecclesiastes, had wealth beyond measure, wisdom beyond any man of his time or ours, hundreds of women, palaces and gardens that were the envy of kingdoms, the best food and wine, and every form of entertainment available. He said at one point that anything his heart wanted, he pursued. And yet he summed up “life under the sun”—a life lived as though all there is to life is what we can see with our eyes and experience with our senses—is meaningless. Why is there such a void? Because God created us for something beyond what we can experience in the here-and-now. Solomon said of God, “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men. Ecclesiastes 1:2; 3:11

In our hearts, we are aware that the “here-and-now” is not all that there is.

In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, we find that God created mankind in His image (Genesis 1:26). This means that we are more like God than we are like anything else (any other life form). We also find that before mankind fell into sin and the curse of sin came upon the earth, the following things were true:

1) God made man a social creature (Genesis 2:18-25);

2) God gave man work (Genesis 2:15);

3) God had fellowship with a man (Genesis 3:8); and

4) God gave man dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26).

The significance of these is that for us to live a meaningful life we must follow these four things

  1. Man is a social creature.

It is not good for man to be alone. This is a word from the mouth of God that for man to alone is not good so we need one another to survive. This is clear that we can only succeed when we have begun to work for other people, creating values for the society where we found ourselves. Give back to society make the world a better place for a living, puts others first thinking of others before themselves. Making an impact in the lives of others. When we have begun this we can create wealth for ourselves with lasting peace of mind. Think of your business when we buy materials for business we need someone to buy from us. And what does this mean, we are satisfying the needs of others and we receive a reward which is money in return by doing so over and over then we can become rich and wealthy, this is an example of the man being a social creature. Think of the needs around you and fulfill them. Someone saw the need to reach out from one of the earth to the other in faster means than he invented the airplane and today it has been satisfying the needs of everyone who want to reach out to the other part of the planet.

The Wright brothers, Orville (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) and Wilbur (April 16, 1867 – May 30, 1912), were two American brothers, inventors, and aviation pioneers who are generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world’s the first successful airplane.

Think about this: What have I contributed to the society where I live?
If not try out one thing today to fulfill the purpose of God

2.)        God gave man work

God gave man work because it is through the labor of our hands that we can eat and no longer the fruits of the garden where Adam and Eve were enjoying before they sinned against God. This is an express command of God that we must work to eat. So for us to live meaningful lives we must begin to work and create things that we can share with others contribute knowledge to others. Whereby we failed to work we will end up in begging as man’s activities on Earth are engrossed with work and labor and we must be part of the labor that can create wealth for us. Our lives can be meaningful when we have started working. God has provided us with everything we need to work, so we have no excuse when we failed to work and we can read from the scripture that God gave us the ability to make wealth. Deuteronomy 8:18 All we have is from God and not by us so as a human being who has the ability to work it is the work of God and not our own ability. We are only stewards of God to work with God in order to multiply and fill the Earth.

Though God finished creation at the beginning but given man the duty to fill the Earth so for us to have meaning to our life we must add value to the Earth we lived.(Genesis 1:28; Eph 2:10). We need to subdue the Earth and fill it so everyone among us has a space to fill and we need to work out the process to fill the place where we live. God had given us different talents to apply and use to subdue the Earth and fill it. The knowledge, ability, and wisdom we have needed to be used to create values within the areas we have found ourselves when we have applied these only then we can create wealth around us and we will have meaning to our life.

3. God had fellowship with man

O LORD, how manifold is thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships: there is that leviathan, which thou hast made to play therein. These wait for all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. That thou givest them they gather: thou openest Thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. The glory of the LORD shall endure forever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works. He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke. Psalm 104:24-32

We must be attached ourselves with God because when he opens His hands to us we are filled but when He closed His hands we suffer for us to continue to live happily we need to attach ourselves to God. Jesus said without me you can do nothing.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned John 15:4-6.

God created man to have fellowship with man in His plan God wants to demonstrate His power among people so that we can see His greatness. As a creature of God, we need fellowship with God in order to have a close relationship with God and we have established a closer relationship with God only then we can gain access to the riches that are in God. The riches of the Earth belong to Him and it is in His hands to determine who will be rich or poor. People labor from morning till night but the increase only comes from God so the inability of a man to get connected with God is the main key of his suffering. Our stay on Earth is to bring pleasure to God and when our life is not bringing pleasure to God, we cannot succeed even when we feel that we have succeeded it is when we get into deeper problems the things we treasured most will turn to our own hurt. All the things that will serve us will turn to be our masters and we all the day’s labor and toils without been satisfied.

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22

It is all when we have been at peace with God that we can be a pleasure to His heart and not seeking our own pleasure but that of God. Our pleasure can only come from God when God has delighted in us but when we struggle for our pleasure and work in our heart desires, we can only add sorrow and pains to our life, because God has not created it so. We need to work closely with God and He will unfold His plans with us and there is no plan of God that fails it all must be established and in this case, we live every day at our own risk if we walked outside God. It is God that directs the way and liberates us from daily toil and moil without getting the equivalent rewards of the labor. Many of us compromised our time for God with the world things and the Earthly things are more pronounced in our life more than every other thing we have and we struggle believing that we can one day become successful.

For to the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner, He gives the task of gathering and accumulating in order to give to the one who is pleasing in God’s sight. This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.  Ecclesiastes 2:26

What is the pleasure you have sacrificed for God? Such can be returned to you in many folds. When are working in God’s vineyard He will send His angels to work for us and His promise is that he will protect and guide us all the time. Whenever we have engaged ourselves with God’s pleasure, our pleasure is guaranteed. As we take pleasure to satisfy the heart of God so He will take the pleasure to satisfy our hearts as well and by so we lack nothing but if we forsake Him. It is not for our own good but for our harm. We labor daily to see that we live comfortably but our comfort does not depend on our hands and it is in the hands of God as the Bible puts it that For to the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy. These are everlasting peace and joy which cannot be bought with money and whoever finds it will be at peace and have a meaningful life that can be extended to eternity.

Here is an example of someone who has treasured the pleasure of God more than His own pleasure and decided to sacrifice his Olympic competition to God’s pleasure and yet he will not disappoint.

Eric Liddell was an Olympic runner from Britain who won a gold medal in the 1924 Paris Olympics. He was a man who had a deep commitment to the Lord and had future plans of being a missionary. In the meantime, he knew God had given him a special gift to run, and he often said, “I feel God’s pleasure when I run.” He spent years training for the Olympics. He passed each hurdle and qualified for the Olympics. Finally, the day came for him to run in the games that were held in Paris. There was only one problem. One of his running events was held on Sunday. Liddell refused to run on Sunday, believing it dishonored the Lord’s Sabbath. He held to his convictions and brought great persecution on himself. He made a decision that even if it meant losing his opportunity to compete, he would not run. God’s laws were greater than man’s applause. Just when the circumstances seemed hopeless, another situation arose that allowed Liddell to run on a different day. So often this is the case in the spiritual realm. God tests our hearts to see if we will remain faithful to Him at the cost of something important to us. Once He knows where our loyalty lies, He opens a new door that meets the desires of our hearts. God takes pleasure in seeing His creation used for His glory. Liddell understood why he was made to run; he used his gift of running to bring pleasure to his Creator. Later, Eric Liddell went on to serve God on the mission field. Does your life work bring pleasure to the Lord? Do you understand that God instilled certain gifts and talents in you so that He might find pleasure in His creation of you? Take pleasure in the gifts God has given to you this day. And let His glory shine through you.

4. God gave man dominion over the earth

God placed man above every other creatures. The man was the caretaker of God’s creation and we need to realize that before our life can be meaningful. We need to exercise our authority every day and everywhere and the bible tells us that we can do all things Philippians 4:13. If we have dominion overall, how do we use our dominion? As we are looking into our dominion power we can dominate our career in order to achieve the best. This is true to say be the best of whatever you are. Working hard to prove yourself the best in everything. The best student studies with scholarship in most cases. The best doctor had the most patients. The best footballer receives the highest pay.  Because of the power of domineering, we always look for the best in everything we need and this makes the world a competitive place and we can only participate if we have the right tools and use it to the best and our ability.
