Today’s Message is titled: Humility.
READING FROM: Zechariah 9:9-11.
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion. Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
In Jesus’ blessing statement (often called the Beatitudes) in Matthew 5:3-11, we read, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Today we equate gentleness with shyness and timidity. However, the Biblical concept of meekness is closer to gentleness. When powerful people put aside their power and act humbly and gently for the greater good, they are displaying meekness.
Long ago, Zechariah prophesied about a king who would enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey. This is quite unusual because a liberating king would usually ride a horse as a symbol of power and victory.
However, Jesus came with gentleness, freeing His people from the grip of sin and death by humbling Himself and dying on the cross. Then, with wondrous and surprising power, He rose in victory over death and the grave.
He did all this for us, promising a full new life forever for all who believe in Him. There are times when it is right to use power for the right reasons, and there are times when it is better to serve with gentleness.
Prayers.
Father God, shape and mold me into the gentle and humble that You desire me to be. Take control of my heart and help me to walk in meekness so that I can be more yielded, more teachable, and more responsible with You. In my meekness also cause me to be gentle and respectful to others. In Jesus name Amen.
