A Christian officer in India’s military, Lt Samuel Kamalesan, was terminated from service for his refusal to participate in the army’s religious rites that conflicted with his faith in the God of the Bible.
“Kamalesan was dismissed from the Indian Army in March 2021 without pension or gratuity for his refusal to participate in specific religious rituals during regimental parades.”
He appealed his case to India’s Supreme Court that “came down heavily on the officer on November 25 and called him a soldier who allowed his ‘religious ego’ to override discipline, cohesion, and respect for his own men.“
Samuel Kamalesan stood his ground and his appeal has now been rejected.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the courage of Lt. Samuel Kamalesan to stand up for his Christian faith knowing that he would pay a severe price for doing so.
He is without a pension or support that would be rightfully his for his service in the military. We ask that You would provide for his many needs and those of his family that are affected by this final decision of the court. May he find a good job to provide for his family in the future. Let his testimony receive wide exposure and strengthen believers in India to stand for You no matter what the consequences may be. We ask this in Your great name. Amen.
