READING: Proverbs 15:33
Let’s think about focusing on wisdom. Here—about the middle of Proverbs—is a verse that sums up much of what this book is trying to teach us. “Wisdom is instruction in the fear of the Lord.” Ultimately, who or what preoccupies your mind the most? Who or what amazes you? What do you think is the most important thing in your life? We do well to examine ourselves regularly and ask ourselves these questions. Because if anything takes precedence over God in our lives, then we will find that everything else will fall apart. Wisdom says that when God is our top priority, everything else will fall into place. When God is our focus, we will be humble and worshipful rather than seeking to gain honor for ourselves. If reputation, financial success, being liked by everyone, or getting what we want are our top priorities, then we will lack humility and will not reflect Jesus. We may talk about Him, but we will not live like Him. So here’s the crucial question: What is your biggest priority? Or what do you want to be your biggest priority?
